HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 cc11-2W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what studies his Department has conducted into the case for additional power stations in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Viggers

Northern Ireland Electricity carried out a review of future requirements for new generating capacity in 1982 and this was revised and updated in 1986. The Government have accepted the conclusions of these studies which show that there is an unavoidable requirement for new capacity in 1995–96. The studies also showed that further capacity will be needed around the turn of the century.
