HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 c11W
Mr. Jim Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the future of Kilroot phase II in the light of his recent statement supporting a new private-sector lignite-fired power station in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Viggers

The press statement issued on 22 December 1987 re-affirmed the Government's belief in the merits of a private sector power station provided that it is in the interests of the consumer and the economy of Northern Ireland as a whole. Kilroot II is one of the options under consideration in the competition for new generating capacity and I will not be in a position to comment on its future until all proposals have been evaluated and the competition drawn to a conclusion.
