Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the practice of the Health and Safety Executive in respect of reimbursement of travelling expenses to candidates called for interview.

Mr. Nicholls

Candidates interviewed at open competition run by the Civil Service Commission for recruitment to the Health and Safety Executive are required to contribute £4 towards their travelling expenses. Their net claim is reimbursed by the Civil Service Commission.

Candidates recruited to HSE locally for administrative posts are reimbursed travelling costs where these exceed £4 to the limit of the second class rail fare.

Candidates called for interview by Health and Safety Executive promotion boards are reimbursed all appropriate travelling expenses.
