To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what progress he has made in his discussions with ferry operators on the use of boarding passes.

The Government issued draft proposals on 4 November 1987 to require the use of boarding cards and a meeting was held with ferry operators on 21 December to discuss these proposals. I now expect orders to be laid before Parliament during February.
