HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 cc24-5W
Mr. Cummings

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what will be the level of funding by English Industrial Estates in non-inner areas in 1988–89.

Mr. Atkins

In 1987–88 English Estates planned programme in the assisted areas was increased from £33.5 million to £37 million. In the event, through increased levels of asset sales, they are likely to achieve a record programme of £47 million. In 1988–89 we have asked them to plan for a programme £5 million higher than this year's—£42 million. In practice we expect that they may exceed this figure and we have authorised them to spend up to £49 million if they can generate the necessary funds from their own resources.

Mr. Cummings

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what the future role of English Industrial Estates will be outside the inner city areas; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Atkins

My Department's White Paper of 12 January made clear that English Estates will continue to provide industrial and commercial premises in the assisted areas where there is no prospect of private sector provision.

Mr. Cummings

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what will be the level of development commitment to(a) the county of Durham and (b) Easington by English Industrial Estates in the years 1988–89 and 1989–90.
