HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 c123W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish in theOfficial Report a list of general hospitals in Wales that do not have a physician with a specialist interest and training in cardiology.

Mr. Grist

[holding answer 18 January 1988]: There is no general hospital in Wales which is without a consultant physician who will have had higher training in all aspects of general medicine including cardiology. Cardiology training has developed over time with changing technologies and therapies and general physicians with a practising interest can be expected to have a range of training backgrounds and experience consistent with their professional clinical practice. There are an increasing number of consultants with a special interest and with specialist training in cardiology in posts throughout Wales and the Department is encouraging this progress.
