HC Deb 22 January 1988 vol 125 c888W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what evaluation he proposes to make of the implications of the radiation effects research foundation study released at the end of 1987 with particular reference to its implications for(a) the economics of nuclear power programme in the United Kingdom and (b) standards of radiological protection for workers in the United Kingdom nuclear industry.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The study by the Radiation Effects Research Foundation — "The Effect of Changes in Dosimetry on Cancer Mortality Risk Estimates in the Atomic Bomb Survivors"—was taken fully into account by the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) when issuing its GS-9 document, "Interim Guidance on the Implications of Recent Revisions of Risk Estimates and the ICRP 1987 Como Statement".

The implications of the NRPB's interim guidance statement are being considered by a working group which is advising the Health and Safety Commission.
