HC Deb 21 January 1988 vol 125 c798W
Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representations have been received(a) in favour of and (b) against the Abolition of Domestic Rates Etc. (Scotland) Act 1987.

Mr. Lang

My right hon. and learned Friend has received 853 representations since the Abolition of Domestic Rates Etc. (Scotland) Bill was enacted in May last year. Since many representations have included comments in favour of some of the proposals and against others, it is not possible to provide the information in the form requested.

Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he intends to inform Scottish local authorities of the level of the proposed unified business rate for 1989–90; and on what basis the business rate will be calculated.

Mr. Lang

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 27 November to the hon. Member for Clydebank and Milngavie (Mr. Worthington) at column132.
