HC Deb 21 January 1988 vol 125 c860W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why he is proposing to make the 20 pig grading officers redundant; who will become responsible for administering this service at the pig processing plants; what are the implications for quality control of Ulster pig products; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Viggers

[holding answer 18 January 1988]: Industry and trade union interests are being consulted with a view to establishing effective and economic arrangements transferring responsibility for operating the Northern Ireland pig carcase classification scheme to the private sector. Implications for redundancy and quality requirements will be among the matters considered as consultations progress.
