§ Mrs. Currie[holding answer 18 January 1988]: Information on health authority expenditure by type of patient is not collected centrally. Hospital cost returns submitted to the Department show expenditure on hospitals of different types and cost returns in respect of community health services show expenditure relating to the major areas of activity.
Total current expenditure on hospitals categorised as mental illness in the Durham health authority district was £1,017,556 in 1985–86 and £1,169,398 in 1986–87. Information for 1987–88 is not yet available.
