§ Mr. RentonInformation is readily available only on the numbers granted settlement in the United Kingdom on the removal of time limit and these are shown in the following table for the years 1983 to 1986. In addition, there may have been a small number accepted for settlement on arrival in the United Kingdom.

§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will provide an indication of the number of individuals refused entry to the United Kingdom although in possession of a valid entry clearance in the last year.
§ Mr. RentonThe only comprehensive figures available of passengers refused entry while in possession of a valid entry clearance relate to the citizens of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ghana and Nigeria who were refused entry at Heathrow, Gatwick and Dover since the extension of visa requirements to these countries. The totals for the year ending 2 January 1988 are as follows:
