HC Deb 21 January 1988 vol 125 c795W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he will pay the final instalment of grant for the new primary school at Bickleigh Down, Roborough, near Plymouth, details of which were submitted to his Department on 20 February 1987 for the amount of £39,086.84; and if he will make a statement as to why there has been an 11 month delay.

Mr. Dunn

When my right hon. Friend approved the establishment of the new voluntary aided school at Bickleigh Down, the Exeter diocesan education committee was informed that grant would be paid on the whole of the governors' approved net building expenditure on the provision of the new school less the proceeds of the sale of the premises of the former Bickleigh CE primary school.

Before the final payment of grant can be made, the Department needs to know the proceeds of the sale of the Bickleigh premises. The Exeter diocesan education committee has been made aware of this requirement but, as yet, the Department has received no response. Until one is forthcoming it will not be possible to make any further payments of grant.
