HC Deb 21 January 1988 vol 125 c858W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the progress by the Central Electricity Generating Board in equipping coal-fired power plants with desulphurisation acid rain control technology; and what was the time scale originally envisaged.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The Central Electricity Generating Board announced in October last year its plans for fitting flue gas desulphurisation equipment to coal-fired stations at Drax and Fiddlers Ferry in a programme extending until 1997. The board inform me that they expect to be in a position to submit an application for consent to the first stage of this programme at Drax imminently.
