§ Mr. Gordon BrownTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many tax office and inquiry branch investigations there have been where additional tax has become due in 1987, broken down by those paying tax at a top rate of(a) 60 per cent., (b) 55 per cent., (c) 50 per cent., (d) 45 per cent., (e) 40 per cent. and (f) 27 per cent.
§ Mr. Norman LamontIn the year to 31 March 1987, a total of 61,656 tax office and inquiry branch investigations were settled in which additional tax became due. I regret that this total cannot be broken down in the way requested except at disproportionate cost.
