Mr. Gordon Brown

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list for 1979 and 1986–87 the number of cases of tax fraud detected for which the amount recovered exceeded(a) £100,000, (b) £500,000 and (c) £1 million.

The Inland Revenue do not keep records of the number of investigations opened in any particular year, but the information for the number of investigations settled is as follows:
