To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is his policy on the siting of nuclear power stations in or near large metropolitan areas.

The siting of each nuclear power station is considered by the Health and Safety Executive's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate against the background which is set out in chapter 5 of the booklet titled "The Work of HM Nuclear Installations Inspectorate", a copy of which is in the Library of the House.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy how many nuclear reactors will be in operation or under construction in Avon, Somerset and Dorset by 1995 under the Central Electricity Generating Board's proposals for the next power station development.
