HL Deb 20 January 1988 vol 492 c322WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have concerning Brother Anthony Rogers of the Federation of Asian Bishop's Conferences, Miss Lim Chin Chin of the Council of Churches in Malaysia and two Christian social workers, who were among others arrested and detained without charge in early December 1987 in Malaysia.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

We understand that 66 of the 106 persons detained in Malaysia in late October and early November have now been released. We believe that the remaining forty, including those named in the noble Lord's question, have had detention orders served on them, under the provisions of the Internal Security Act, which permit their detention for two years.
