Mrs. Roe

The Department has taken up with the council the cases mentioned. The council says that it is now clearing the backlog and that it has issued approximately 1000 section 125 offer notices in recent weeks.

Mr. Gerald Bowden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made by his Department with its inquiries into the cases of the Southwark council tenants mentioned in his answer to the hon. Member for Dulwich on Tuesday 3 November 1987.

Mrs. Roe

The Department wrote to Southwark about these cases on 3 November 1987 but, despite reminders, the council has so far failed to reply fully. It says that it is giving priority to clearing the backlog of outstanding section 125 offer notices. The Department is continuing to press the council, and I will write to my hon. Friend as soon as the information requested is available.
