§ Dr. MarekTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will estimate the cost of the additional amount of road damage which will occur in a year as a result of the raising of the gross weight limit for two-axled rigid vehicles from 16.26 tonnes to 17.00 tonnes.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThis change in gross weight comes into effect on 1 April 1988. The effect on road wear and tear will depend on the number of vehicles authorised for use at the higher weight, their mileage and lading. The Department will be monitoring this. The information will become available in due course.
