§ Mrs. Currie[holding answer 18 January 1988]:Information is not collected centrally on the individual age of children using local authority day nurseries. Over the period 1982–86, the number of children on the registers of local authority day nurseries increased from 31,700 to 34,900 an increase from 1.1 per cent. to 1.2 per cent. of the population aged under five years.
