§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether, further to his answer of 7 December 1987,Official Report, column 64, about the opening of underground train doors while the train is in motion, the investigation by London Underground Limited to which he refers has been completed; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. David MitchellThe investigation by London Underground Limited into one of the incidents has not yet been completed but they have already indicated that they have taken appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence of the two incidents on the Central line. New rolling-stock built for one-person operation has an interlock which prevents the doors from being inadvertently opened whilst the train is in motion. Similar provision has been incorporated where technically possible into rolling-stock which has been converted for one-person operation but LUL have been unable to find a reasonable or practical means of preventing the train doors of the other, older stock from being opened in error by train crews who, if they misoperate the doors, are dealt with under the disciplinary code.
