SSIXS Equipment (Hansard, 18 January 1988)

Mr. O'Neill
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many United Kingdom-owned and United Kingdom-operated SSIXS shore terminals in Britain(a) have been installed and (b) are planned.

§ Mr. Sainsbury
A number of United Kingdom-owned and operated RN SSIXS satellite communications systems have been installed ashore; the need for further such systems is kept under regular review. It would not be in the national interest to reveal precise numbers.

Mr. O'Neill
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Clackmannan on 7 December 1987,Official Report column 88, what weapon systems other than Royal Navy submarines have been fitted with SSIXS equipment.

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given on 11 January 1988 at column 64.

Mr. O'Neill
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence whether Royal Navy Trident submarines will be fitted with the SSIXS system.

It is not the policy to reveal the precise equipment fit of Royal Navy Trident submarines.
