To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services why the hon. Member for Bradford, South has not yet received a substantive reply to his question tabled for priority written answer on 1 December 1987 concerning care for the mentally handicapped; when he may expect to receive a reply; and if he will make a statement.

I apologise to the hon. Member that he has not yet received a substantive reply. It has been necessary to make inquiries to bring up to date the information held centrally. I hope to be able to let him have a reply soon.
