To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what response he has given to the request from DM Rees, secretary of the Medical Research Council, that the Medical Research Council budget should he increased from £140 million to £180 million.

My right hon. Friend has not received a request from the Medical Research Council for such an increase in its budget.
