To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what reduction there has been in in-patient waiting lists in Warrington district health authority between 1986 and 1987; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

Between March 1986 and March 1987 the number of in-patients on the waiting lists of Warrington district health authority fell by 808 from 2,672 to 1,864. During the same period the proportion of cases on t he list for more than one year fell from 41.9 per cent. to 29.2 per cent.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will publish a table for each district health authority and special health authority, showing for each the total numbers of people waiting for treatment in September 1982 compared with the numbers at March 1987, the numerical change and the percentage increase or decrease, listed with the biggest increase first and the largest decrease last;

(2) if he will publish figures showing the numbers of people waiting for treatment in March 1978 and March 1987; and if he will break down this list by regional health authority, district health authority and special health authority.

I shall let the hon. Member have such information as is available centrally without incurring disproportionate costs as soon as possible.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give a breakdown for each of the last nine years, to the latest convenient date, by specialty, of the current waiting lists for operations at each of the hospitals in the Conventry district health authority; and what information he has as to the waiting lists, similarly tabulated, for examination.
