To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average length of time for the issue and renewal of firearm certificates by the Metropolitan police.

The information requested is not held centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that for renewals a reminder notice to certificate holders is issued 10 weeks before the date of expiry, and that the necessary administrative procedures are normally carried out within this time.
