HC Deb 18 January 1988 vol 125 c493W
Mr. Winnick

To ask the Prime Minister, pursuant to her answer of 13 January,Official Report, column 270, what is her policy towards holding files in her office on British politicians; what information she has as to when this practice started; how many such files there are of this nature; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

No such policy is needed. As part of normal office procedure, files are opened on any subject arising in the course of public business for papers which may be received or generated on that subject. Such files form part of the public record and are considered for release at the appropriate time under the rules laid down.
