HC Deb 15 January 1988 vol 125 cc426-8W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many offers there have been, and of what total value, against which a first payment was made of(a) regional selective assistance of (i) less than £5,000 and (ii) £5,000 or more by his Department in each financial quarter since 1985–86 in (1) Holyhead, (2) Bangor/Caernarfon, (3) Pwllheli, and (4) Portmadog Ffestiniog travel-to-work areas, respectively; and (b) regional development grants of (i) less than £5,000 and (ii) 5,000 or more in the Holyhead travel-to-work area.

Mr. Peter Walker

There have been no offers of regional selective assistance since 1985–86 against which a first payment has been made in the travel-to-work areas of Holyhead, Pwllheli and Porthmadog and Ffestiniog. In the Bangor and Caernarfon TTWA, there have been no such offers of less than £5,000. Details of those for £5,000 or more are set out in the table.

In the case of regional development grant, details of offers in the Holyhead TTWA against which a first payment has been made are given in the table for the period 1 April 1985 to 31 December 1987 as a whole. In order to protect confidentiality on individual projects which do not meet the standard criteria for publication, the information is not broken down into financial quarters.

I envisage more regional development grant during 1988–89 and thereafter an increase in demand for regional selective assistance in the area.

(i) RSA offers—1.4.85 to 31.12.87 (where a first payment has been made).
