HC Deb 15 January 1988 vol 125 cc417-8W
Mr. Corbett

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in the light of the implied threat to the legitimate activities of a legal opposition party and those who oppose the integration of northern Cyprus into mainland Turkey, he will make an official protest to the Turkish Government over the award of £100,000 damages against Mr. Ozker Ozgur, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party in Cyprus, for an alleged libel of Mr. Rauf Denktash.

Mrs. Chalker

It would not be appropriate for us to make representations over a civil case of this kind. Nor do we believe that the Government of Turkey are involved in this matter.
