§ Mrs. Ray MichieTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has to introduce the labelling of EEC citrus fruit coming into the United Kingdom which has been sprayed with the chemicals thiabendazol or ortophenilphenol; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Donald Thompson[holding answer 14 January 1988]: Strict controls on the levels on which these chemicals may be used as preservatives on fruit are laid down in the regulations following advice from independent experts. There is no requirement in the food labelling regulations that such fruit should be labelled and I have no plans at present to alter that situation.
