HC Deb 14 January 1988 vol 125 c351W
Mr. Caborn

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what proportion of his Department's 1987–88 expenditure on press and public relations will be devoted to the production of a video to promote a new corporate image of his Department.

Mr. Maude

[holding answer 11 January 1988]: In the context of the new measures recently announced to the House, we have produced a short video to help with staff communications, as is now common in many organisations in both the public and private sectors. This video is mainly concerned with the Department's new policies and services although it does also mention the importance of the Department's image with the business community. The production cost of this video is approximately £17,000. The Department's expenditure on press and public relations in 1987–88 is expected to be £1,123,000.

Mr. Caborn

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what plans he has to change the corporate image of his Department; and what costs will be involved on(a) new stationery, (b) uniforms and badges and (c) the change of vehicle logos.

Mr. Maude

[holding answer 11 January 1988]: We have introduced new letterheads in the Department to replace a wider range of diverse styles which were previously in use. An expensive survey would be needed to identify the exact costs of redundant stationery including those held locally by secretaries and typing pools. We estimate the purchase cost of redundant stationery held in the central stationery stores to be approximately £5,000. However, this will be offset to a significant extent by using this stationery internally or in scrap pads. It is our intention that in due course the new style will be reflected in other areas such as uniform badges and on vehicles. Planning is still in hand for this process but in many cases we will phase in the changes as part of normal renewal and maintenance programmes.
