HC Deb 13 January 1988 vol 125 cc290-1W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has about the current amount of sugar beet in storage within the EEC.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Sugar beet is not normally stored except for a short period between harvesting and processing into sugar. According to the Commission's latest estimates, total sugar stocks at the end of September 1987, including normal commercial stocks for use within the Community, totalled 2.8 million tonnes. There is no sugar currently in public intervention storage.
