HC Deb 13 January 1988 vol 125 cc262-3W
Mr. Frank Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what are the current staffing levels of the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, Factory Inspectorate and Agricultural Inspectorate; and what are the expected levels for 1988–89 and 1989–90.

Mr. Nicholls

On 1 January 1988 the number of inspectors in each inspectorate was as follows:

Number
Nuclear Installations Inspectorate 114
Factory Inspectorate 554
Agricultural Inspectorate 150

Following an increase in the provision for 1988–89, the Health and Safety Executive plans to increase during 1988–89 the number of nuclear installations inspectors to 120, the number of factory inspectors to about 585 and the number of agricultural inspectors to about 160. Final decisions on staffing levels for later years have not yet been taken.
