HC Deb 13 January 1988 vol 125 cc329-30W
Mr. Steel

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many and what proportion of late abortions in England and Wales are for women resident in Scotland.

Mr. Newton

There is no universally accepted definition of late abortion. However, the number of notifications of abortions performed under the Abortion Act 1967 on women usually resident in Scotland, carried out in England and Wales at 21 completed weeks gestation and over, for 1986 is 46, which represents 1.69 per cent. of all abortions at this gestational age carried out in England and Wales.
