HC Deb 13 January 1988 vol 125 c290W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the implications for fish stocks in the Irish sea of the presence of United States nuclear submarines; what assessment he has made of the radioactivity risk to fish stocks; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

My Department carries out extensive monitoring for radioactivity in the aquatic environment, including fish stocks, around the British Isles, and the results are published annually and placed in the Library of the House. These surveys indicate that levels of radioactivity in the Irish sea, from whatever source, pose no risk to fish stocks.
