To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he has any plans to introduce new legislation to protect consumers.

I refer the hon. Member to my replies to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Pollok (Mr. Dunnachie) on 18 November and to my hon. Friend the Member for Hertfordshire, South-West (Mr. Page) on 16 December.

In addition, the Government intend shortly to introduce regulations to implement the EC directive on misleading advertising. We are also considering proposals for regulations under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 on misleading price indications.
