HC Deb 13 January 1988 vol 125 cc260-1W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representation he has received from the Association of London Authorities regarding the citizen registration fee; whether he intends to reply; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

My right hon. Friend received a letter dated 4 November 1987, from the association's race policy adviser, asking that the £60 fee for registration under the British Nationality Act 1981 should be waived and seeking a meeting. His private secretary replied on 8 December explaining that there is no power to waive the fee, and in consequence a meeting to discuss the request was not considered useful.
