To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he has any plans to introduce legislation to enable accountancy firms to incorporate; and if he will make a statement.

Yes. We intend to remove the existing statutory prohibition on the audit of companies by corporate bodies when we implement the EC eighth company law directive. I placed a note giving further details in the Library on 10 December last year, in response to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Hertfordshire, South-West (Mr. Page).
