HC Deb 12 January 1988 vol 125 c253W
Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received about his policy towards 17-year-olds who are not still in education and also choose to remain on social security rather than take a job, or accept a training place.

Mr. Scott

Up to 8 January we have received a total of 53 letters concerning the Government's proposal to withdraw the general entitlement to income support from 16 and 17-year-olds. Most of these expressed concern about particular groups such as the disabled and the homeless and the representations made will be fully considered when the regulations exempting certain groups from the general provision are framed.
