To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is the latest figure for the number of staff presently employed in the press and public relations office of his Department; and what is the number planned to be employed at this point in 1988.

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is the latest figure for the estimated spending in 1987–88 by his Department on(a) television advertising, (b) radio advertising, (c) newspaper advertising and (d) other promotional material; and what are the estimated expenditures in each area for 1988–89.

[holding answer 17 December 1987]: Information is not readily available to distinguish between advertising in newspapers and in the press generally, nor for expenditure other than centrally by my Department.

The estimated media expenditure for 1987–88 by my Department is as follows:

Other promotional publicity 3,869,000
Total 12,216,000

Detailed decisions on expenditure by media have not yet been taken for 1988–89.
