HC Deb 12 January 1988 vol 125 c241W
31. Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent representations he has received about provisions for caring for handicapped children; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

Representations have been received recently on a range of subjects relating to the care of handicapped children of which the major issues raised concern the provision of conductive education and implementation of sections 5 and 6 of the Disabled Persons (Services, Consultation and Representation) Act 1986.

Our position on conductive education was set out in the reply to the right hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South (Mr. Ashley) on 24 November 1987 at columns 180–81 and I announced that implementation of sections 5 and 6 of the 1986 Act would take effect on 1 February 1988 in my reply to the hon. Member for Monklands, West (Mr. Clarke) on 4 November 1987 at column 783.
