These values come from five-yearly epoch global data sets produced in part by British Geological Survey and part by the United States Naval Oceanographic Office as a joint project. The basic data come from magnetic observations worldwide.
In 1986 MOD commissioned British Geological Survey to produce a regional magnetic model for Europe.
