HC Deb 12 January 1988 vol 125 c244W
63. Mr. Bowis

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the community care budget will cover the costs of dispersed alarm systems for the elderly and disabled who live in their own homes; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

Decisions about the priorities for social services and housing provision, including dispersed alarm systems, are for the local authorities concerned to take in the light of local needs, circumstances and plans. The funding of alarm systems is certainly part of the wider question of funding community care. We have drawn this to the attention of Sir Roy Griffiths, who is reviewing the way public funds are used to support community care policy, and we will give further consideration to this issue in the light of his report.
