HC Deb 11 January 1988 vol 125 c132W
10. Mrs. Gillian Shephard

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to change his priorities in roadbuilding.

Mr. Channon

My objectives in building roads in Britain remain the reduction of transport costs, to assist economic growth, the removal of through traffic from unsuitable roads in towns and villages and the enhancement of road safety. All the schemes in my road programme meet one or more of these objectives; many of them achieve all three, and I have no plans to change them.
