HC Deb 11 January 1988 vol 125 c181W
Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services to what extent any studies he has commissioned into leukaemia clusters in Cumbria have taken account of any possible effects from the consumption of radioactive milk or other substances after the Windscale fire of October 1957.

Mrs. Currie

The independent expert Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment reported in 1986 on the incidence of cancer in West Cumbria. This report was based on evidence — both published and unpublished — of estimated radiation doses to the public from all sources, including radioactive milk, over the period 1951 to 1982 including the effects of the Windscale fire of 1957.
