To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of the professional information technology staff in his Department, including programmers, systems analysts and managers, are based in London and the south-east.

Ninety-eight per cent. of staff using ADP functional skills on a full-time basis are based in London and the south-east.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of the trainees for professional information technology posts within his Department are(a) female and (b) more than 30 years of age.

Just under 60 per cent. of trainees for the ADP functional specialism, current and those joining shortly, are women and about 10 per cent. are over 30 years of age.

The complement for posts in the administrative class requiring the knowledge and skills of the ADP functional specialism, excluding staff engaged on data processing duties, is 237. In addition, a number of staff in other professional grades exercise these skills as part of their duties. Currently there are four trainees in post and 13 more are to join shortly.
