§ Mr. CartwrightTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what plans he has for the photographic library of the Central Office of Information; and if they involve the destruction of any part of the collection.
§ Mr. Brooke[holding answer 17 December 1987]: From April 1988 the photographic services of the Central Office of Information, including the library function, are to be reorganised. The aim will be to improve the service to Government Departments, who are the main customers of the COI. The existing photographic library will be closed: it is not an archive, but the Public Record Office and other appropriate libraries are being consulted about original material which will be offered to various specialist collections for safe keeping.
