HC Deb 11 January 1988 vol 125 c180W
Mr. Rooker

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated number of people resident in the United Kingdom who were born in(a) Estonia, (b) Latvia and (c) Lithuania; and why the information on country of birth of such residents is recorded for census purposes.

Mrs. Currie

The information requested is not recorded. All people enumerated in the census have to state the present name of their country of birth. Persons who recorded that they were born in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were given the same code as persons born in the USSR.
