To ask the Secretary of State for Wales when he last met the chairman of the Welsh water authority; and whether he intends to issue any change in the guidelines or priorities laid down by his Department for the authority's activities.

My right hon. Friend met the chairman of the Welsh water authority on 4 December. He wrote to the chairman on 19 February 1988 setting out the Government's financial targets for 1988–89. Other than circulars, the only guidelines presently proposed are those referred to in paragraph 37 of the document "The National Rivers Authority" published last December.
