HC Deb 29 February 1988 vol 128 cc462-72W
Mr. Battle

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the percentage of patients awaiting operations in the Leeds, West district health authority who have been waiting for(a) under one month, (b) under two months, (c) under three months, (d) under six months, (e) under nine months, (f) under 12 months and (g) between 12 months and two years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish the September 1987 figures for in-patient waiting lists, urgent and non-urgent, for each district in the Yorkshire region.

Mr. Newton

The September waiting list figures are being compiled now and will be published as soon as possible.

Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services when Her Majesty's Government intend to publish the quarterly waiting list returned filed by all district health authorities and special health authorities on 31 June 1987.

Mr. Newton

[holding answer 18 January 1988]: The returns for 30 June were seriously incomplete, due to initial difficulties in some places in switching to the new and more detailed information system. Putting these figures into a form in which they might usefully be published requires extensive work, and we are currently giving priority to the returns for September, which I hope to be able to publish shortly.

Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish a table for each district health authority and special health authority, showing for each the total numbers of people waiting for treatment in September 1982 compared with the numbers at March 1987, the numerical change and the percentage increase or decrease, listed with the biggest increase first and the largest decrease last.

Mr. Newton

[pursuant to his reply 18 January 1988, c. 570]: The information requested is given in the table.

1 The waiting list for Milton Keynes was formerly held by Aylesbury Vale Health Authority but was taken over by Milton Keynes Health Authority in 1984 following the development of Milton Keynes General Hospital. The above table shows a comparable reduction in the Aylesbury Vale figures.
2 The waiting list figures for March 1987 are affected by the transfer of Black Notley Hospital from the North East Essex District to Mid Essex DHA on 1 April 1986.
3 No March 1987 figures available for Hampstead Health Authority and the Royal Marsden Hospital.
4 In September 1982 the data for the Eastman Dental Hospital was collected by another unit.

Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish figures showing the numbers of people waiting for treatment in March 1978 and March 1987; and if he will break this list down by regional health authority, district health authority and special health authority.
